Frequently asked questions.
Learn2Curl
Do I need any special equipment?
Learners do not need to bring any equipment. All equipment needed is provided for your Learn2Curl including broom, gripper, slider, delivery stick (if needed), and stabilizer.
What should I wear?
The lobby and classroom at the Ice Factory are typical Florida Indoor Temp - ranging from 70-80 degrees F typically. The Ice House is typically around 45-50 degrees F. Learners are advised to dress warmly and in layers to that they can adjust for their comfort throughout the event. Participants will be warmer in the off-ice session, as well as once they start playing the game, but the initial On-Ice Instruction can get pretty chilly. Clothing should be loose fitting to enable the participants to stretch and move around in the various positions required to curl. Some may also find that a pair of gloves and/or a hat will help keep them warm when on the ice.
Participants should wear clean, soft, rubber-soled athletic shoes (sneakers, tennis shoes, etc), which will assist with grip while walking on the ice service. Boots with an elevated heel, open-toed sandals, flip-flops, and cleats are not permitted.
Is there a place to store personal items?
Participants are welcome to leave personal items on the benches surrounding the ice rink or on the player’s benches. The Orlando Curling Club and the Ice Factory are not responsible for lost or stolen items. Coin-operated lockers are available in the Ice Factory lobby for guest use as well. Personal items should not be left directly on the ice surface.
Can I bring Food and Drink?
Outside Food and Drink is not allowed at the Ice Factory. Participants may bring a bottle of water with them. The Ice Factory has a snack bar that servers snacks, water, soda, beer, and wine. It is usually open at the end of an early morning session or prior to a late night session. Participants may bring a beverage onto the ice with them but it must be stored outside of the playing area.
Can I bring a friend to watch?
Yes! Spectators are welcome to come. During the classroom session, spectators may watch other events on the ice or hang out in the Ice Factory Lobby. In the Ice House, spectators can stand along the outer perimeter of the rink and watch through the glass or may go to the opposite side and sit in the bleachers. Spectators are not allowed out onto the ice.
It will be approximately 45-50 degrees in the Ice House so it is advisable for spectators to dress warmly and bring a blanket if desired.
